Taking charity to Asia

IT wasn't just a record-breaking streak for The Bull Run 2007 but also the first time that the annual charity event organised by the Singapore Exchange (SGX) embraced an Asian theme, reflecting the bourse's role as an Asian Gateway.

This year, The Bull Run extended its help beyond disadvantaged children and youth in Singapore to include families and the needy in neighbouring countries. It raised a record $3.5 million in donations which will go to 14 selected charities - a clear signal of the social commitment of the financial sector as it benefits from the strong economy. A record 2,650 participants gathered at the Padang on Friday night, Oct 12, to sweat it out for charity.

The annual event was organised by SGX in collaboration with Temasek Holdings and in partnership with Central Singapore Community Development Council, The Business Times, Channel NewsAsia and PricewaterhouseCoopers. It was also supported by the Land Transport Authority and the Singapore Sports Council.
